Exploring Taman Jurong Museum

If you might remember, the very first community art museum here in Singapore opened its doors last January 2013. The 85 square meters museum located along Yung Sheng Road drew about 24000 guests. Some of these guests are from the Heartland. Many people go to the museum because they want to witness the artworks from the national collection which includes sculptures, murals, paintings and other installations.

You should know that the museum was initiated and made possible thru the efforts of the National Heritage Board (NHB), Taman Jurong community supporters and PA (People’s Association). The idea of residents making their own art and feature it in the museum is a new one. Its success is undeniable. The museum is called Our Museum. Apart from community art, the museum features the works of artists like Urich Lau, Tay Bee Aye, Ben Puah and Terence Lin.

Our Museum is open every day except for PH (Public Holidays). Be advised that from Mondays to Fridays, it will open starting 3pm to 7pm. If it is Saturday and Sunday, it will open from 10am-6pm.The admission is free. You do not need to pay for anything when you go here. If you have any questions, you can call the museum at 6265-1711.

The museum is appealing because patrons now do not need to travel to the city to get a glimpse of artworks. If you are from the city, getting to Our Museum is easy via bus or train. Some of the artworks are completed by TJ residents. This charming museum should expect more guests in the years to come.
