How to Prepare Fish Head Curry


You are craving for something spicy. Why not eat fish head curry? Fish head curry is a simple yet very tasty dish here in Singapore. It involves stewing of red snapper fish with vegetables and hot curry. The distinct taste of the fish head curry can be attributed to the tamarind. It will surely take your breath away.

If you want to savour this, you can either go to Indian restaurants that specialize this dish or you can cook it personally for your family and friends. Here’s how:


You have to secure ingredients first. You need ½ lb of cleaned fish head, 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of chilli powder, 1 piece red chilli, ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, 3 teaspoon of coriander powder, ½ teaspoon of mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds, chopped ginger, 5 pieces of garlic cloves, 1 piece onion, 2 pieces cinnamon stick, 1 cup of coconut milk, 2 pieces of tomato, oil and salt.



After preparing the ingredients, you can start cooking. The first thing that you need to do is heat up the pan then fry the seeds (fenugreek, cumin and mustard), garlic, ginger and cinnamon. Add little water to make a paste. In another pan, sauté onion and tomato, add the powders (cumin, chilli, turmeric and coriander) and mix the paste. Wait for it to boil then add a little salt and the fish head. Do not forget to mix it with coconut milk until it is cooked well. You can now serve it with rice.
